How to add your AI agent to Telegram groups
Using Your Agent in Telegram Groups
Your AI agent can participate in Telegram group chats. It can respond to mentions or to every message, depending on your settings.
Prerequisites
- Your agent must have a Telegram bot set up
- You must disable privacy mode via @BotFather (see Telegram Bot Setup)
Adding Your Bot to a Group
- Open the Telegram group
- Go to group settings → Add Members
- Search for your bot's username and add it
- The bot needs to be registered for the group via your account dashboard
Registering a Group
After adding the bot to the group, you need to register it:
- Go to your Account Dashboard
- Click on your agent
- In the Groups section, add the group's Telegram chat ID
- Choose a trigger mode:
- Mention — Bot responds only when @mentioned (recommended for active groups)
- All — Bot responds to every message (best for small groups or dedicated channels)
How It Works
- Each group has a separate conversation history — what happens in the group stays in the group
- The bot maintains separate memories per group
- If trigger mode is "mention", write
@YourBotUsername your questionand it will respond - If trigger mode is "all", every message gets a response
Security
- Only the agent owner can register groups — random users adding your bot to their groups won't trigger any responses
- Unregistered groups are silently ignored
- The bot owner controls which groups the agent participates in
Tips
- Use mention mode in large groups to avoid spam
- Use all mode in small, dedicated groups where the agent is a primary participant
- Each agent can be in multiple groups simultaneously
